This building has been built by Kamran Diba and his colleagues.

The erection of this building started on 1976 and ended on 1978.

The entire space of Niavaran Complex is 110,000 square meters and the infrastructure of it is 10,000 s. meters. The building was used as the faculty of art under restriction of Ministry of Guidance from 1985 to 1995 and started its activities at the same year under the title of Cultural Center.

At the time being, Mr. Ali Aeenehsaz is the president of this complex.

Climate Review

Climatically, Niavaran is located in a moderate mountaineer exposure.

For the reason of North winds, the architecture of Niavaran has been designed as East & West. Lighting of this building comes from 4 directions. Although the building has been designed as separate parts and set aside each other later, with the designer’s special heresies, an accurate & pursuit relation between the two parts of the building has been formed.

Construction Review

The structure of this building is reinforced concrete. The designer of this building has been able to create a new form of traditional & modern architecture by combining texture (concrete & stone), form (simple geometrical) and tradition (Persian traditions).

Entrance:

The transom of this building’s entrance is symmetrical. This transom is as an entry for reaching the main entrance of the cultural center. The transom is an example of octave porch space structure in traditional architecture.

The guard kiosk is at the right side of the entrance. Stairs make the main buildings reachable. Two other factors that guide people to the main building are the platforms and boxes.

For entering the main yard, one has to pass beneath the traditional structure of the entry transom.

Two structures can be seen in the central yard:

At the left side (building no. 1) with two floors:

The first floor is the amphitheater which is being used as a movie theater.

Amphitheater: includes 3 main sections.

Exits

Main hall

This space has an entrance or corridor with a positive factor. People, who want to exit the amphitheater, enter a waiting hall first and then they are leaded out. The projector room of the hall is equipped with fire resistant walls and roofs and a room for urgent electrifying and transformer has been designed under the auditorium. The length of the stage is almost twice its width and the natural incline of the ground has been used for the amphitheater inclination.

The second floor

Office of the president and the assistants

Building no. 2 approaches the gallery and the official section’s entrance by a few steps at the right side.

Gallery

The central yard guides us to the gallery entrance by a few steps.

Picture

Before entering the gallery, there is a porch which leads to the library and the restaurant.

For entering the gallery, a round corridor guides you forward, as a part of gallery while creating a practical atmosphere for the gallery as well. The circular structure of the corridor has caused the distance from corridor to the official center be less felt.

The gallery has been formed of 5 half floors that 3 of them are used as the main hall.

The Official Section

This section has been formed of 3 floors.

Ground floor: Includes room of typists and the second and third include financial, official, music, computer & managements of the cultural center counsels which are all made by glass partitions.

Noting that the official section does not over look the other sections of the cultural center.

Restaurant:

The space of the restaurant has been expected for two floors which is accessible from three sections of the building: 1- Central yard 2- Gallery Entrance 3- Library

Goosheh Hall:

This hall is locating at the end of central yard and between the two main buildings as it joins them together. It is considered for different artistic activities.

Library:

Library includes 1- Entrance 2- Entrance Hall 3- Catalogue Section 4- Reference and Delivery 5- Book Storing 6- Study Hall. The interior design of this complex is somehow that one can reach what is needed and feel calm at the same time.
